I started
The Size of Connecticut in 2009 when I moved back to the state where I grew up (something
I once swore I’d never do) and began to really explore it for the first time.
The blog’s
name came from something I realized over the many years I lived outside
Connecticut: in the rest of the country, no one ever talked about Connecticut
except to use its small size to illustrate the size of something else. European
nations, African nature preserves, California counties, icebergs, and forest
fires were said to be “the size of Connecticut,” but few people outside the
Nutmeg State seemed to care what was in the real Connecticut, or that it contained
much more than they could imagine.
At first, the
blog was mainly about myself: how I dealt with moving back here, and the
interesting (to me) places I discovered around the state. Though I was writing
about travel for newspapers and websites, I didn’t blog much about Connecticut
as a destination.
But the
feedback I got came almost entirely from readers in other states or countries
who had never been to Connecticut and thought it looked beautiful, and those
who had lived in Connecticut for ages but had never ventured outside their
immediate area. People in both groups were surprised that there was so much
here to see and do.
That’s why
I decided, beginning in 2015, to concentrate less on my own random finds and more
on providing inspiration for travelers to Connecticut from Connecticut and
beyond. (If you liked the random finds, don’t worry – all my old posts are
still here on the blog, and I’ll continue to post that type of content on
Instagram.)
I trust
that anyone reading this is fully capable of finding information about the
state’s most popular tourist attractions and events. My goal is to share some of
my favorite smaller, quirkier spots, as well as to showcase some of the major attractions
in a different light.

How does one follow you? Why don't you have have it mentioned on your home page? Thanks, and yes, I'd like to follow you. Born in New Britain and have a lot of ancestry there.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are really nice. I attribute that to skill (I could have the best camera out there in my hands and still take crappy photos) but I am wondering what camera you use.
ReplyDeleteRe: cameras - I took the photos for all posts prior to November 2014 with a Nikon E3200, a Nikon Coolpix S570, or a Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS. I currently use a Panasonic Lumix DMC-DX7
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of family and sentimental connections to CT, and I love what I've read so far on your blog. Bravo! I could, however, use a bit of help in following you. Suggestions? Thanks.
